Integrated Solutions for Production and Conditioning of High-Quality Alloyed Metal Powders

WHY PROCESS QUALITY MATTERS?

This process equipment family covers the production and conditioning of high-quality metal powders for powder-based 3D printing and hot isostatic pressing (HIP). The line combines primary powder production with downstream classification and magnetic separation, cleaning from non-metallic inclusions, all operations done in vacuum cleaned all-inert conditions, hot vacuum degassing required to deliver a stable, application-ready metal powder. For HIP the powder can be delivered in sealed containers or filled into HIP capsules with all preparation steps ready for HIP.

 

The technological chain begins with the Plasma Rotating Electrode Process (PREP), used for the production of spherical metal powders without entrapped gas porosity, with narrow PSD, excellent flowability, low O2 content and a morphology suitable for demanding downstream applications. This is followed by fraction classification combined with magnetic separation for controlled particle size distribution and removal of metallic contaminants, electrostatic separation for the dry removal of non-metallic inclusions, and thermal-vacuum degassing to remove residual gases from the powder surface.

 

For HIP applications the process can be extended to a dedicated module for thermal-vacuum degassing, controlled HIP capsule filling to a required tap density and reliable hermetic sealing, all done in vacuum.

 

Each stage may be supplied either as a standalone installation or as part of an integrated full-cycle production line. This modular architecture allows the solution to be adapted to different production scales, alloy systems and plant layouts, while maintaining a single process logic across the entire chain.

Process stages

Stage 1. PREP – Plasma Rotating Electrode Process System --->

Production of spherical metal powders as the primary feedstock stage.

Stage 2. VMSC – Vacuum Magnetic Powder Separation and Classification System --->

Particle size classification combined with the removal of metallic inclusions.

Stage 3. VESP – Vacuum Electrostatic Powder Separation System --->

Removal of ceramics, oxides, slag-related and other non-metallic inclusions.

Stage 4a. TVDR – Thermo-Vacuum Powder Degassing and Reconditioning System --->

For 3D-Printing. Removal of adsorbed moisture and gases from powder particles, including powder that has been previously stored or cycled.

Stage 4b. TVDE – Thermo-Vacuum Powder Degassing and Encapsulation System --->

For Hot-Isostatic Pressing. HIP-oriented filling, degassing optimization and hermetic sealing of capsules loaded with powder.

Engineering approach

We apply a flexible engineering approach and develop the equipment configuration and processes around the customer's process requirements. Depending on the project, this may include an individual machine, a grouped set of modules, or a full-cycle line with coordinated process parameters, handling logic and integration level.
