Hot Isostatic Press Systems (HIP)

Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) systems are an important tool in the field of material processing. They function by subjecting materials to high temperature and pressure simultaneously, allowing for uniform shrinkage and high sample density. This makes HIP a versatile method that can be used both as the primary way to compress powder materials and as a supplementary method to process materials after sintering or 3D printing. Furthermore, HIP can help to eliminate any potential voids or defects that may be present in the material, resulting in a higher quality final product.

American Isostatic Presses' hot isostatic presses are custom-made to meet the specific needs of production facilities or research labs. For instance, silicon nitride production does not require high pressure during the HIP process, while some processes require an oxygen atmosphere and ultra-fast gas injection. AIP presses can accommodate these requirements.

Hot isostatic pressing can be used for different materials and results in a homogeneous grain structure. The HIP method achieves the maximum fatigue life of structural materials. Some technological processes, such as the production of transparent ceramics, require the HIP method.

HIP presses can produce complex shapes, such as turbine blades, using the sequential pressing method. Samples undergo cold isostatic treatment before being hot-pressed without a mold to obtain semi-finished products of complex shape.

Overall, HIP systems are an important tool for creating high-density materials with a high degree of uniformity. With the expertise and high-quality equipment provided by AIP, it is possible to achieve excellent results using this method.

Laboratory Hot Isostatic Press Systems

The AIP6-30H Hot Isostatic Press sets the standard for research systems, offering an economical, safe, reliable, and capable solution. With advanced computer control, superior furnace design, simple operation, and AMT plus AIP support, this combination is unrivaled. We offer many models to suit any need, and we will customize systems to meet your unique requirements.

AIP systems feature plug-in style furnaces that can accept a 1200 C Kanthal, 1500 C Molybdenum, 2200 C Carbon, 1400 C Platinum, or 1900 C Tungsten. All AIP systems come with installation and training.

The AIP6-30H system has a 75 mm inner diameter (ID) and 125 mm insertion length (IL), and can operate with Ar, N, Ar-20%+O gases at pressures of 207 MPa, 310 MPa, 414 MPa, or 690 MPa.

AIP6-30H

The AIP6-30H is still the preferred system for small research applications. With its low cost and long lifespan, it offers the capability to run fast cycles from vacuum to full pressure, including SinterHIP capabilities. There are many furnace options available, and systems can be operated with a glove box.

AIP10-30H

When you need more than just research but aren't quite ready for production, the AIP10-30H is the perfect choice. This HIP system has a 150mm diameter x 300mm long hot zone that is ideal for scaling up samples. Like all AIP systems, this unit is extremely reliable and easy to operate.

Production Hot Isostatic Press Systems

AIP manufactures a wide variety of systems, ranging from pilot scale units to large production systems. These HIP units feature AIP's state-of-the-art furnace designs and advanced computer control systems, providing more ROI for customers and improving their bottom line.

AIP's production scale systems have plug-in style furnaces that can accept Kanthal, Molybdenum, Carbon, or Tungsten furnaces. The maximum temperatures depend on the system size, with a range starting from 1200 C Fe, 1450 C Mo, and 2000 C Carbon for an 18-inch ID vessel system, down to 1150 C Fe, 1350 C Mo, 1800 C Carbon for a 60-inch ID vessel system. AIP systems always come with installation and training.

The maximum operating pressure also depends on the size of the system, ranging from 207 MPa for an 18-inch ID vessel system to 103 MPa for a 60-inch ID vessel system.

Diameter and length vary depending on furnace type and temperature, but AIP can supply custom dimensions to fit any need. The pressure shown is typical, with higher and lower pressure systems available.

AIP18-30H

The AIP18-30H is designed for small-scale production and can be located either above ground or in a pit, depending on the roof height. With a hot zone diameter of 300 mm, it is available in three different lengths: 400 mm, 700 mm, and 900 mm versions.

AIP24-30H

The AIP24-30H features a 400 mm diameter x 1500 mm long hot zone.

AIP52-15H

The AIP52-15H Hot Isostatic Press is a large production-sized system that boasts an 1100 mm diameter by 2500 mm long hot zone at 103 MPa.
